Matthew Short is a saxophonist and woodwind doubler based in Brooklyn, NY. Matt holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Boise State University and a Master’s of Music from NYU. While at NYU, he performed on a variety of woodwind instruments with the NYU Broadway Orchestra, big band, orchestra, and various jazz combos and chamber music groups.

Matt is active around the New York area as a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, and music educator. He has performed at venues such as the Copacabana, Disneyland, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Tournament of Roses parade, the NYC Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival, McCall Summerfest, and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Matt was a featured artist at the Boise State Gene Harris Jazz Festival and winner of the Boise State Concerto-Aria Competition. He has also performed with the NYC Ballet Orchestra.

Most recently, Matt was a woodwind player for the American Queen Steamboat Company, performing daily on saxophone, flute, and clarinet on riverboats up and down the Mississippi River.

​

Matt has many years of experience as both a classroom and private lessons teacher throughout the New York and Boise areas. His students have been accepted to All-State jazz and symphonic ensembles, as well as various collegiate music programs throughout the northwest United States.
