Milan Jovic
Piano Instructor

Milan Jovic is a pianist, conductor and teacher from Belgrade, Serbia. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Orchestral and Choral Conducting with a minor in Music Pedagogy at Belgrade Conservatory and his Master of Piano Performance degree at The New School’s Mannes School of Music in New York, under the guidance of Inessa Zaretsky.

Coming from a family of musicians he started playing piano at a very young age and had his debut in Belgrade’s Kolarac University Concert Hall at the age of 9. He was also a prize winner at the Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition in Novi Sad and the International Young Pianists Competition in Nis. As a conductor he has appeared in front of the RTS Symphony Orchestra, The Serbian Army Orchestra as well as the Belgrade Conservatory Orchestra. However, even during his conducting studies he could not let go of his passion for piano and decided to move to New York to pursue his career as a pianist and educator. In the past two years he’s had three solo recitals as well as multiple performances as a soloist or collaborator in various venues across the city.

Milan started teaching shortly after entering the Belgrade conservatory and has since

instructed many students from ages 4 to adult in piano and other disciplines of music, such as ear training and theory. He has experience working with all levels ranging from beginners to conservatory students, having most recently taught at the Secondary Piano Department at Mannes School of Music. Since coming to New York he’s worked predominantly with students up to the age of 10 and has prepared them for performances, competitions and ABRSM exams.

Having received a comprehensive musical education, Milan strongly believes in a well-rounded approach to learning and establishing firm foundational skills which lead to a deeper understanding and joy in creating music, and he strives to pass on these values to his students.

Outside of practicing and teaching, Milan also enjoys spending time in nature and playing

soccer. He also holds a black belt in Kendo, and is a passionate ballroom and social dancer.
