A native of Taiwan, Yi Chang is a Master of Music piano performance major at the Mannes School of Music. Chang received third place in the Japan Asia Cup International Competition (2006), and was the winner of second place in the Harold Protsman Classical Period Piano Competition (2015). He has performed in masterclasses with Christian Tetzlaff, Leonidas Kavakos, Boris Berman, Boris Slutsky, William Grant Nabore, and many other well established musicians. Prior to his Master’s study, Chang was a pupil of Alvin Chow at Oberlin Conservatory. His other primary teachers include Andrei Yeh and Winston Choi. He has also studied with Li-Chin Lai and Evelyne Brancart. Chang is currently studying under Pavlina Dokovska, and will receive his Master of of Music degree in Spring 2018.
For the past four years, Yi Chang has worked with numerous students from age 3 and a half to age 35. He was granted Class Piano teaching assistant at Oberlin Conservatory, and is currently piano instructor for Group Piano 1A at Mannes School of Music. Yi Chang currently has 15 students in numerous schools including Music School of Westchester, Art Oasis, and Keys to Success. Piano pedagogy for younger children is his main focus and his passion, and he wishes to pursue a doctorate degree in piano performance and piano pedagogy in the future.
Outside of music, Chang enjoys all different kinds of sports. He is especially passionate about basketball, which is his second biggest hobby other than practicing music.
