Angela Rey is a versatile pianist, percussionist, and educator with over 20 years of piano study and more than 13 years of teaching experience, including 1.5 years at Keys To Success. She tailors her curriculum and approach to each student’s unique needs and goals, whether following their set program or preparing for ABRSM piano exams.
At Keys To Success, Angela has an outstanding exam record. All 11 of her students who took the ABRSM exam in the spring of 2025 passed: four of her students passed the Prep Test (which is graded pass/fail), and all students taking Grades 1–4 passed with honors — five with merit and two with distinction, the highest possible honor.
A recognized figure in the Brazilian cultural community in New York City and abroad, Angela is a teaching artist, conductor, and percussionist with Mambembé NYC, led by Everton Isidoro, and a samba dancer and percussionist with Grupo Ribeiro. Her deep involvement in Afro-diasporic and Brazilian music enriches her teaching, helping students develop strong rhythmic and expressive skills across genres.
Angela studied classical piano with Alla Gladysheva at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Latin-diasporic music and jazz with Arturo O’Farrill at UCLA, where she earned her B.A. in Music. She speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish, allowing her to connect with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
