Mary Cowden is a multi-instrumentalist playing alto, tenor, and soprano saxophone, flute, piano, and singing. She started playing piano at the age of four years old and started playing saxophone at the age of thirteen. Mary has taught private lessons for the last five years independently and through schools and companies. She specializes in children ages 6-14 but welcomes students of all ages and abilities! Mary has also taught at numerous jazz camps including The Hilton Head Jazz Camp, and Killooleet Camp.  She graduated from The New School in New York City with a dual degree in Psychology at The Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts and a degree in Alto-saxophone Performance at the School of Jazz.

In addition to jazz, Mary writes, composes, and plays contemporary music, singer-songwriter, indie, and fusion music. She has performed on stages including The Newport Jazz Festival, The International Jazz Festival of Bern Switzerland, Amsterdam Blue Note, The Provincetown Theater, and Smalls Jazz Club. Currently, she is finishing the release of her debut album "Past These Walls".
